With Sainsbury's existing supply chain no longer able to deal with the demands of its store network and emerging need for direct to consumer deliveries, the UK's longest standing major food retailing chain needed to modernise its supply chain systems to support its strategic warehouses and facilitate collaboration with suppliers—initiatives amongst others that would support future growth.
Following its implementation of Manhattan's Warehouse Management system, Sainsbury's gained an accurate and real time picture of inventory levels across the significant proportion of its distribution network—including 4 strategic fulfilment centres that collectively process around 400m cases per year—controlled by Manhattan technology. Sainsbury's deployment of Manhattan's Extended Enterprise Management has also improved supplier collaboration.
